Quick Fixes That Pay Off Big When Selling Your Home
Quick Fixes That Pay Off Big When Selling Your Home
You don’t have to tackle expensive and time-consuming renovations to make your home sellable. Try these quick and cost-effective fixes instead.
Kitchen
- Replace the sink faucet if you’ve had yours for more than 10 years or have poor water pressure.
- Update old lighting fixtures that might be broken, dull or outdated.
- Refinish or paint cabinets to freshen them up without remodeling the kitchen.
- Add new handles and pulls to cabinets and drawers, try even just repainting the ones you already have.
- Install a simple, inexpensive backsplash. You might consider a peel and stick backsplash, too.
Bathroom
- Get a new toilet seat that’s comfortable and stylish if yours is starting to discolor and come off its hinges.
- Replace the sink hardware to match your bathroom cabinet hardware. This can tie together a design well.
- Install a new showerhead that will attract people, like a rainhead or one with multiple settings.
- Regrout tile and apply new caulk to give the floor a refreshed look.
- Change the mirror if yours is too small or foggy. The bigger the mirror, the bigger the room will feel.
Closets
- Install an organization system that maximizes the space.
- Remove the builder-grade wire racks and replace with nicer shelving.
- Repaint the closet door — or even replace with a trendy sliding barn door.
Exterior
- Work on simple landscaping to make a great first impression by adding bushes along a walkway or re-mulching to keep it looking healthy.
- Fix cracks in the walkway or driveway to keep it safe and appealing.
- Repaint the front door, and update the door hardware. Consider matching window shutters and your door for a cohesive look.
Miscellaneous rooms
- Rent a carpet cleaner to give your carpet some life and color back.
- Update window treatments and make sure they’re adding height to the room instead of shortening it.
